Elephants In Need(EIN)
Elephants in Need (EIN) is a Canadian Non-Profit Organization protecting wild elephants and enriching the lives of captive elephants in Sri Lanka
Objectives are:
1. Elephant Conservation in Sri Lanka- Help prevent further habitat destruction and to restore corridors so elephants can move between habitats.
2. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage in Sri Lanka- Help improve the quality of life for these elephants already in captivity, and promote their living in as natural a state as possible.
3. Dehiwala Zoo in Sri Lanka- Capacity building by teaching trained captive elephants to paint, and to provide Sri Lankans with a sustainable method to raise money for elephants' care and conservation in the future. This activity also provides enrichment to the zoo elephants when appropriate training methods are used. We stress that the mahouts use positive reinforcement, (rewards vs. reprimands) and that painting is primarily for the elephants' enrichment, so that they are never forced.
